Safeguard Your Heart: Embrace the Power of No

Daily writing prompt
How often do you say “no” to things that would interfere with your goals?

No, a two-letter word holds more power than any word or action. It does have a flip side, though: it takes a lot of strength and willpower to say NO.

Being an empath, I had to ‘unlearn‘ to say yes to everything to the person in front. I had to unlearn to overdo things. I am still ‘unlearning’. Although there is a certain beauty in being a giver, sometimes, holding back to safeguard our hearts is important, too.
Certain steps I take to safeguard my overly sensitive heart are –

  1. I sidestep from the situations, people and places that don’t align with my perception.
  2. I always tell myself – A certain person’s opinion is never a fact.
  3. Indulgence in others’ opinions is like handing them power to make shifts and changes in your life. Always have a mind, an opinion of your own.
  4. Goals are personal, valid, and do not have to be ‘accepted’ by those who do not share your interests.
  5. Always respect others’ perception, never absorb.

Your dreams and goals are yours, no matter how crazy or stupid they may sound to others.
Do not run around seeking validation from people who do not empathize with you.
Respect and love go both ways.
If you feel like it’s all ‘give’ and no take, do not hesitate to walk away from it.

At the end of the day, you should feel satiated and satisfied with your life.
Nobody gets to have a say in it. No matter how close.
Own your choices. Do not back away from saying NO.
